Birdwatching

This island is the only place where you can observe one of the endemic species of the Azores, the Monteiro’s Storm Petrel (Oceanodroma monteiroi). This bird nests on the islets of Baixo and Praia, along with other seabirds. This area is protected, so to visit the site and observe these birds, you should contact a local company to arrange a boat trip.
