Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the Carapacho Thermal Baths began to be recognized for the ability of their hot waters to provide visitors with a moment of healing, tranquility, and peace, even being considered miraculous.

Located by the sea, at the foot of the highest volcanic elevation on the island culminating in the Graciosa Caldera, where another of the most sought-after tourist spots on the island is located: the Furna do Enxofre, this thermal resort is set in a beach area, with a natural swimming pool, and is highly sought after for the multiple benefits of its hot waters.

Originating from the aquifer underlying the Furna do Enxofre, its waters are chlorinated, sodic, sulfated, calcic, hypersaline, sodic-chlorinated bicarbonate, very rich in magnesium salts, and with a pH of 7.2. They emerge at a temperature of about 40°C.

Their therapeutic use dates back to at least the 1750s for the prophylaxis of rheumatic diseases, skin, liver, and colitis, with immersion baths being the most common form of treatment. The nineteenth-century classical-style building has been completely renovated and offers SPA services and medicinal therapies.

The thermal season extends from May 1st to September 30th each year.
